Department Overview

Welcome to Electronics & Communication Engineering

The Department was established during the inception of this institute in 1979. The undergraduate course B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering has an intake of 180. The Department offers two post graduates courses, M.Tech. in Digital Communication & Networking (D.C.N) which was started in 2004 and M.Tech. in Automotive Electronics which was started in 2016. The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty and 14 of the 37 faculty members are Ph.D degree holders with an average teaching experience of 15-20 years. The faculty have received grants for research projects, with a recent funding from SERB in 2019. The department has a MoU with Consortium of Electronics Industries of Karnataka (CLIK), ANABATTLEFIELD SYSTEMS Pvt. Ltd., INDRONES SOLUTIONS PVT. LTD., ARM, KRYPTOS MOBILE and GLOBAL ENERGY PRIVATE LIMITED. The Department has obtained NBA accreditation four times. First in 2004 for a period of 3 years, second for a period of 3 years in 2008, third for a period of 2 years in 2015 and fourth accreditation for a period of 3 years in 2018. The Department is permanently affiliated to VTU, Belgaum. Since the last 5 years the department is functioning as a autonomous body. Many student teams win KSCST funding for their innovative projects with many teams receiving KSCST funding recently in 2019 and 2020. The autonomous batch semester syllabus has been prepared with inputs from industry and academia in the Board of Studies meeting after a detailed discussion and deliberation. Effectiveness of Outcome Based Education Teaching Learning process is reflected in the form of academic results, Placements, Admission to higher studies in India and abroad and Quality of projects done.

Over the last four decades, the department has shown consistent growth in terms of curriculum, competence to meet the changing requirement of the industry and the needs of major stakeholders.

The Department has state-of-the-art laboratories and well-designed skill-based Laboratories, which can cater to the needs related to Embedded System and allied areas of AI-based IoT. Students are enriched with this technical knowledge and expertise in identified domains. The Department prides itself as a destination of choice for students aspiring to be efficient engineers and entrepreneurs. The Department has a heritage of providing educational excellence from the time of its inception.

The designed syllabus is industry oriented and offers project based learning which strikes balance between the professional knowledge and personal skills necessary for overall development of the student.
