Department of Physics

The Physics Department at GIT College offers strong classes and hands-on research, helping students get ready for jobs in science and industry.

Welcome to Department of Physics

The Department of Physics came into existence since the inception of the Institute in the year 1979. The department possesses good infrastructure with spacious working area consisting of HOD’s Cabin, Staff Cabins, Physics Lab.-I and Lab.-II and a Centre of Excellence in Astrophysics for Undergraduate Programs.

The Centre of Excellence is established with a memorandum of understanding(MOU) with Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru. The department is also provided with a Research Centre for the students pursuing Ph.D. The department has well qualified, dedicated and self-motivated faculty members and the supporting staff. The attention of the faculty members is solely focused towards enhancement of scientific skills and academic performance of the students besides their interest in scientific research, more specifically in the areas of Materials Science and Astrophysics.

Vision

To unfold the inherent secrecy, beauty and creativity of physical science to enrich scientific temper among the future technocrats.

Mission

To make the students understand the concepts of Physics for the effective application in the field of engineering and technology by the best use of infrastructure available in the department.

HODs Message

Dr. M. K. Rendale (Professor & Head)

Indeed, it is my distinct honor and proud privilege to welcome the students and guests to the Department of Physics, KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi.

The faculty members of our department involve themselves in the welfare of the students to ensure good academic performance. The students are motivated to take up innovative projects asthe open ended experiments with a view to enhance their thought process in the fields of advanced science and technology. As a part of social service, out higher semester students take pride to coordinate the Astronomy Club activities like Star gazing session for the students of nearby high schools and colleges to create awareness about the celestial objects.

Thank you for visiting our website.

Unique Features

  1. Facility: All classrooms are equipped with LCD Projectors to enable multi modes of teaching. The entire department is Wi-Fi enabled, ensuring easy access of information to both staff and students. The department has a well-established library apart from Central Library. Students can refer the books in the department library.
  2. Centre of Astrophysics: Department has signed MoU with Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru for establishing the Centre of Astrophysics in March 2023.
The center has a 10-inch optical telescope facility. The center also has a laboratory, library facility. UG or PG students utilize the facility for their projects/ internship. As a part of exploration for social services, public outreach programs are being conducted.

Best Practices

  1. Student Centric and Activity Based Learning: Activity based learning such as Open Book Assignments, Quizzes, Seminars and Open Ended Experiments are introduced for the First Year BE Students. Further, to make teaching-learning process to be more interactive, the teaching aids such as PPTs and Lecture Videos are being employed. The primary focus is to encourage the students gain knowledge in basic sciences and develop with exceptional creativity.
  2. Faculty Development Programme (FDP): As learning is the continuous process, Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is organized every year to update the knowledge
of teachers. Faculty members are deputed to attend FDP’s by extending financial support.
  3. Research and Development (R&D) activities: Department of Physics has the recognized Research Centre from VTU. Students are pursuing Ph.D. in different areas of Physics at the research centre. Faculty members/students are encouraged to attend National/International Conferences to present their research innovations and publish their articles in the peer reviewed journals.
