On September 28, 2024, a online expert talk titled “Applications of GIS in Civil
Engineering” was conducted for 3rd semester civil engineering students, providing them
with an introduction to the critical role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the
field. The session, attended by over 33 students, featured presentations by experts who
explained the various uses of GIS in infrastructure planning, design, and management. Key
topics included site selection, construction monitoring, and the integration of GIS with
other technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM). A live demonstration of
GIS software tools, along with a case study on urban planning, helped students understand
the practical applications of GIS in civil engineering projects. The event concluded with an
interactive Q&A session where students gained insights into career opportunities, academic
resources, and the future of GIS in the engineering industry. Overall, the webinar
successfully bridged theoretical concepts with real-world applications, leaving students
with a deeper understanding of GIS technology.
