GIT shall stand out as an institution of excellence in Technical Education and in training individuals for outstanding calibre and character.
Goals
1.Short term Goals: a)To promote & inculcate the Applications of Research skills by getting atleast one industry consultancy related to Graph Theory and b)To get atleast one project from organization like VTU, DST etc. within two years. 2.Long term Goals: a)To conduct atleast one National/International conference and hence to make known the activities conducted in the GIT Mathematics Research centre to more people on National/International platform and b)To have atleast two certificate courses useful (i) to Engineering faculty pursuing Ph.D and/or (ii) to BE students who wish to pursue their MS/M.Tech.
Overview
The Department of Mathematics was started in the year 1979. There are seven faculty in the department. All are postgraduates with three doctorates. The department is recognized as the Research Centre by VTU in the year 2005 to pursue PhD degree in Mathematics. Currently three students have registered for PhD. The faculty is engaged in research of high quality in the areas like Spectral Graph theory, Distances, Domination theory etc and have published several research papers in referred Indian and foreign journals and presented many papers at various national and international conferences , seminars, workshops and symposiums. The faculty members have been invited to deliver special/expert lectures. Many of the faculties are members of reputed professional societies like ISTE, KMA, VTUMTF, ADMA, etc. The department has computer facility with internet.
Awards And Achivements
# Dr. P. R. Hampiholi was invited to deliver the lectures in VTU EDUSAT programme during August 28, 2006 to Dec. 2, 2006.
# Dr. H. S. Ramane’s biographical profile is selected in 2006 – 07 edition of Marqius “Who’s Who in Science and Engineering” and “Who’s Who in Asia” published from USA.
# Dr. H. S. Ramane has been selected to include in the biographical reference titled "Outstanding Scientists of 21st Century", by International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.
