Overview
Gogte Institute of Technology is one of the premier technical institutes in Karnataka and is rated as one of the best in North Karnataka. The department has faculty strength of 24. All the faculty have postgraduate degree from reputed institutes. Two faculty members are with Doctoral degrees in the fields of Thermal Engineering and CAD/CAM. Ten faculty members are pusuing Ph.D.degree in various specialisations in Mechanical engineering discipline. The department maintains well equipped laboratories as well as library in addition to main library. A full fledged Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) set up has been established in the department. A centre for Research and Training in CIM-FMS has been established in collaboration with MTAB-Denford. Every year department attracts good quality students, which are reflected in the cut off CET rankings. Total student strength of the department is 354. VTU as recognised Mechanical department as a research centre,where candidates can carry out the research activity which leads to the award of Ph.D. or M.Sc.(Engg.) degree from VTU. Currently 06 candidates have registered for Ph.D. Department also offers M.Tech. in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, a well-designed advanced level programme. Apart from regular teaching work staff members engage themselves in nsultancy, research work and many of them have presented / published papers in National / International Conferences / Journals.

  • Congratulations to Mr. Maitrey Kulkarni for securing First Rank to VTU. Mr. Maitrey Kulkarni (2GI03ME043) a student of Mechanical Engineering department has topped the university by securing 83.82 % (2787 out of 3325). The Principal, HOD, Faculty, Staff and Students have congratulated him for his grand success.
  • Mr. Venugopal Kulkarni (7th Sem.), Mr. Naveen Inamdar (7th Sem.), Mr. Narhari Nadgir (7th Sem.)and Mr. Palaksha Nadgir (5th Sem.)participated in KC Mahindra Award Design Competition 2007. Team won the Second Prize. For their excellent achievement Dr. A. S. Deshpande Head of Mechanical Engineering department and all the staff members has congratulated the team.
  • Mr. Kumar A. H., 6th Semester student from ‘A’ division bagged 1st prize worth Rs. 3000/- in “VITality”, a National Level technical event organized by Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Trust’s Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune. He had participated in the event DEXTERITY, which was sponsored by a leading tool manufacturing company SANDVIK. He showed his excellence in Solid Modeling using AutoCAD. For his excellent achievement Dr. A. S. Deshpande Head of Mechanical Engineering department and all the staff members has congratulated him.

  • Prof.A.K.Bhat has been conferred Ph.D. degree from Ranchi Universiy.
  • Mr. Mrityunjay R. Doddamani (Lecturer) has been awarded GOLD MEDAL in M.Tech (Production Management) in the year 2003-2004
