NRI Admission
1 Who is PIO?
Persons who are citizens of other countries (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) who at any time held an Indian Passport, or who or either of his parents or any of his grand parents was a citizen of Indian by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of India or Sec 2(b) of Citizenship Act, 1995 (Act No. 57 of 1955).
Foreign Nationals:
Citizens of all countries other than India, who are not of Indian origin as defined under PIO.
Foreign Student
- Foreign Student in this context shall be defined as the student who possesses a foreign passport.
- Non-Resident Indian (NRI) (as per Income Tax Act, 1961):
As per Income Tax Act, 1961 an individual is Non-Resident for income tax purpose, when he is "not a resident" or who is "not ordinarily resident". A person is treated as "not ordinarily resident" when any of the following conditions is satisfied:- If he has not been resident in India in nine out of ten preceding years; OR
- If he has not been in India for a period of 730 days or more during the preceding seven years.
A person, who is Non-Resident in India or Not Ordinarily Resident, is taxed in India only for his income in India. He is not taxed in India for income abroad.
2 . What is the fee structure for NRI students?
Ans : The concerned State Government shall lay down tuition and other fess for candidates to be admitted under NRI / Foreign National / Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) Category / Quota.
3. What are the eligibility criteria for NRI students?
Ans: : B.E. (Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Industrial & Production, Computer Science & Information Science)
a. Minimum Percentage : 35%
- Qualifying Exam:
Pre-University examination (Science) conducted by the Karnataka State Pre-University Board or 10+2 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.) or any other examination recognized equivalent thereto - Subjects of Study:
Compulsory Subjects:
i.English as a subject of study
ii Physics, Mathematics
Optional Subjects (Any one):
Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Computer Science/Electronics/Information Science/Biology
AcademicEligibility:
The candidate has passed the second year Pre-University or XII standard or equivalent examination with Physics, Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects : Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Information Science / Biology
4 . What are the reservation critaria for NRI students ?
Ans : Under these Regulations fifteen percent (15%) seats in all the institutions / University Departments approved by AICTE offering technical courses leading to Diploma, Degree and Post-Graduate Degree in Engineering & Technology, Architecture & Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts, MBA & MCA, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, shall be allowed on supernumerary basis from amongst Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) over and above the approved intake. This is subject to the availability of adequate infrastructural facilities in the respective institutions. These supernumerary seats shall be exclusively meant for the foreign students in the diploma, under-graduate and post-graduate courses with a rider that under no circumstances a seat remained unfilled shall be allocated to any one other than a foreign student/PIO. Foreign_Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) admitted in an AICTE approved institutions through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) or as Govt. of India nominee shall be included within this 15% Ceiling.
B.Arch(Bachelor of Architecture)
1 . What is the eligibility critaria for B.Arch?
Ans: All students who have passed the two year Pre-University examination with minimum of 50% marks (40% for SC/ST) conducted by the Karnataka State Pre-University Board/equivalent there to with English and Mathematics as subjects of study are eligible.
OR
10+2 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.) with English and Mathematics as subjects of study.
OR
The three year Diploma Holders in Civil and Architecture branch of Engineering awarded by the Board of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka, or any other Diploma qualification considered equivalent there to by this University, who have secured not less than 50% of the total maximum marks in the final examination of the Diploma course are eligible for admission to the first year of B.Arch. course. However, there shall not be any exemption of any subject at the B.Arch. degree course.
M.C.A. (Master in Computer Applications)
1 . What is the eligibility critaria for MCA?
Ans : Students who have passed a Bachelor Degree of minimum 3 years duration with not less than 50% of marks in the aggregate of all the years of degree examinations(45% for SC/ST/Cat I) having studied and passed Mathematics OR Business Mathematics OR Statistics OR Business Statistics OR Mathematics & Statistics OR Computer Programming OR Computer Science OR Computer Applications as one of the optional or electives at degree level.
Also a candidate who has passed the qualifying examination (Q.E.) with requisite marks but also a student who has appeared for the qualifying examination and who is expecting the results is also eligible to apply for the Common Entrance Test.
