50 % seats through CET conducted by Government of Karnataka for which counselling is conducted by KEA.

25% seats through COMEDK.

Admissions for GIT are done in accordance with the norms of Govenment of Karnataka and Visvesvaraya Technological University. Accordingly, Engineering aspirants can seek admission to the Institute through the Common Entrance Test (CET) administered by the Karnataka Examination Authority, Government of Karnataka. The CET is conducted annually, usually after the Pre-University Examinations of the Karnataka Pre-University Examination Board, Bangalore. The  test is notified in prominent newspapers preferably in Jan/Feb every year. The eligibility criteria, procedures and other relevant details are available with this notification. Engineering aspirants are required to take the CET for admission to the engineering courses in Karnataka.

Students can also appear for the entrance examination (UGET) conducted by Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). The aspirants are requested to visit www.comedk.org for more details.

As per the norms, few seats would be available through Managment / NRI quota which would be filled as per the guidelines of Government of Karnataka.

FAQ

1. What is CET?

Ans : Common Entrance Test(CET) is a test  conducted for the admission of students to various professional courses like medical, engineering, MBA, MCA, Pharmacy, law, nursing and others

The common Entrance Tests in India are increasingly becoming popular as it allows the students to apply to various     colleges in different states of the Indian Union.

2.  Who conducts CET?

Ans : CET is conducted by Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Karnataka.

3.  Who is eligible for CET?

Ans : Candidates who satisfy one of the following Clauses / Eligibility Criteria / Conditions laid down under Rule - 4 of the CET Admission Rules, will ONLY QUALIFY for admission to Government seats. Each condition is specified as a clause and is individually referred by a code.
The candidates who do not satisfy any of the Clauses / Eligibility Criteria / Conditions detailed below, will not be eligible for admission to Government seats. Therefore, such candidates need not apply. The Clauses and codes are as follows:

CLAUSES

  • CODE a ) The candidate should have studied and passed in one or more Government or Government recognised educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academic years commencing from I standard to 2nd PUC / 12th standard as on 1st July of the year in which the Entrance Test is held and has appeared and passed SSLC/10th standard or 2nd PUC / 12th standard examination from Karnataka State. In case of the candidate who had taken more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years of academic study is counted as one year only.
  • CODE b ) The candidate should have studied and passed I and II year Pre-University Examination or equivalent examination within the State of Karnataka from an Educational Institution run or recognised by the State Government and that either of the parents should have studied in Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years, which should be evident from the certificates issued by the concerned institutions.
  • CODE c ) In the case of candidates whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava and who are residing outside the State of Karnataka as on 1st July of 2005, such candidates should have passed the qualifying examination from an University or Board or any other Institution located outside Karnataka. Provided also that the candidate shall undergo a test, which will be conducted by the CET Cell on 05-05-2005 at 11.00 a.m. to establish his ability to speak, read and write Kannada.
  • CODE d ) A candidate whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava and who resides in disputed Kannada speaking area of South Sholapur or Akkalkot or Jath or Gadhinglaj Taluks of Maharashtra State or Kasargod Taluk of Kerala State. The candidate shall undergo a test, which will be conducted by the CET Cell on 05-05-2005 at 11.00 a.m. to establish his ability to speak, read and write Kannada.
  • CODE e ) In the case of a candidate who is son or daughter of defence personnel who has worked continuously in Karnataka for a minimum period of one year as on any day between 1st July of 2004 to 30th June of 2005. The candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examination from any Government or Government recognised educational institution located in Karnataka.
  • CODE f ) Son or daughter of serving defence personnel who at the time of joining the defence service had declared his/her hometown a place in the State of Karnataka. Proof of such domicile should be obtained and produced by obtaining the extract from the Record Office of the Defence unit.
  • CODE g ) In the case of a candidate who is a son or daughter of a defence personnel who had served in Karnataka for at least one year and is posted on duty in Field / Active Service and whose family is permitted by Defence Authorities to continue to stay in Karnataka. Such candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examination from any Government or Government recognised educational institution located in Karnataka.
  • CODE h ) Son or daughter of an ex-servicemen who at the time of joining the defence service had declared a place in Karnataka as his home town, proof of such domicile should be obtained and produced from the “Deputy Director, Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement”.
  • CODE i ) In the case of a candidate being a son or daughter of an employee of the Union Government or an employee of the Union or Karnataka State Government Undertaking or Joint Sector Undertaking, who is liable to be transferred anywhere in India as per the terms and conditions of his employment and has worked in Karnataka for a minimum period of one year as on any day from 1st July of 2004 to 30th June of 2005 and such candidate has studied and passed the qualifying examination from any Government or Government recognised educational institutions located in Karnataka.
  • CODE j ) Son or daughter of a working or retired employee of the Union Government or employee of Union or Karnataka State Government undertaking or Joint Sector undertaking where such employee; (a) had declared to the employer at the time of joining service any place in Karnataka to be his home town; and (b) had studied in any Government or Government recognised educational institution or institutions located in Karnataka for a minimum period of seven years; and (c) was or is liable to be transferred anywhere in India as per the terms and conditions of his employment.
  • CODE k ) Son or daughter of Members of Parliament elected from Karnataka.
  • CODE l ) Son or daughter of serving or retired employee : (a) belonging to All India Service of Karnataka cadre; and (b) of the Karnataka State Government, who has served or is serving outside the State of Karnataka during the period corresponding to Candidate’s study outside the State from 1st standard to 2nd PUC or 12th standard examination can be added to make up the seven years study within Karnataka as required under clause (a) above.

NOTE : In case, if any of the documents produced in respect of the Clause claimed by the candidate is found to be false /   incorrect, the seat selected by the candidate will be cancelled at any stage and the entire fee amount paid by such candidate  will be forfeited.

4.   Where can I get the application form for CET?

Ans : Application forms for CET are supplied at the Pre University Colleges. However, outside Karnataka students may obtain the application form directly from C.E.T.Cell, Bangalore.

5.  What is the fees for CET?

Ans: As per government norms.

6.  What are the reservation criteria for CET?

Ans: As per government norms.

7.  What are the probable dates of notification for the CET and the exact date?

Ans: The test is notified in the prominent newspapers preferably in the month of January/February every year

And the test is usually conducted in the month of April/May.
